CHRISTMAS CAROLING

the evening started slow and sweet with a sublime rendition of “Silens nox”, but then, unsheathing from our sleeves, we whapped the home owners with a rousing “adeste fideles” and ending with a bang with the “hallelujah chorus”! After our shock-and-awe performance, we retreated back to our base of operations, which one of our members graciously let us use, and had tasty fingerfood, soft beverages, and copious amounts of popcorn. Afterwards, we worked the food off with a dance-dance-revolution marathon, and then dragged ourselves back into the shadows from which we came.

STARGAZING NIGHT

in the middle of the night...we came!!! bringing space-themed treats and our bushy-tailed eagerness, we camped out in the middle of a farm field and around a roaring fire, picked out the constellations. It was a wondrous occasion as we told the myths for each constellation.

PUMPKIN DECORATING DAY

pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin! don’t you just love that word...p-u-m-p-k-i-n...it sounds exactly how a pumpkin looks. that round ‘puuuump” echoing the rotund shape, then that sassy “kiiin” acting as the stem of the word. Did you know the word “Pumpkin” comes from the greek word “pepon” meaning large melon? So they are classical, which is why we had a pumpkin decorating day! We each brought our own orange gourd and transmogrified them into roman senators, generals, and gods with sheets and construction paper.

CANDY DAY

At calvary’s fall festival, we distributed bags of smarties and dum dum lollipops with a twist. we surreptitiously attached latin stickers to the bags so people will get with their sweetness a little substance.

SCRAPBOOK DAY

Snip, rip, snap, scratch, scrrrlp, music to my ears. So went scrapbooking day, an activity that always binds us closer together. literally! haha! josh’s hairs are still glued to my fingers.

FESTIVAL IN THE PARK

we have reached the lives of many here at festival in the park, more kids have been indoctrinated into the classics. latin and greek has now reached more eyes and ears by our plan of having attendees create mosaics. if you build it, they will come.

Shazaam! The classical league struck buzzer gold in the spring certamen Competition at wake forest university! We applaud all those who attended. participants report that the questions were “middling” i.e. between easy and hard, and Continuing that north carolina certamen question tradition, the roman wedding spelt cake made numerous appearances in several rounds. Congratulations, master’s academy!

SCRAP-BOOKING PARTY

The forces of the classical league join together to champion goodwill-by holding a scrap-booking party! Pizza and carbonated beverages were brought in to slack our appetites, and then the work began! Paper flew, stickers were stuck, and the glue overfloweth. Some of our members even got carried away with “bedazzling” and jewels had to be removed from some people. But when the smoke subsided, we were left with a downright groovy scrapbook. The forces of good triumph once again!
